Counseling and Support

Celebrate and support women and girls

The Oasis Center’s Counseling Program provides a safe, confidential and worry-free environment that meets women where they are in life. These one-on-one sessions with a trained counselor guided by our strengths-based philosophy forge a personal connection with someone who is there to listen and help. Individual counseling is offered on a sliding-fee scale based on personal ability to pay, regardless of insurance status.

Our counseling philosophy is a strengths-based approach to collaboratively help create relationships between our team members and the women we serve. This relationship may involve direct work with individuals, families, groups, and communities as well as advocacy to empower and promote social and economic justice. We focus on women’s inherent strengths, resources, and coping skills. In our program, the women we serve are agents for their change, crafting solutions to their problems. Our members encourage women to recognize, marshal, and enhance their strengths and abilities, empowering them and establishing a collaborative working relationship. We identify resources for our members and abilities from the women we serve and connect them with a plan of action to change their futures. Our focus for our women is implementing positive change for the future.

The Oasis Center respects and admires single moms and recognizes the challenges that come with being one. Single Moms Support Group provides a safe and casual environment to share and learn from mothers in similar circumstances. With the guidance of a licensed counselor, the women talk through difficult times or situations, and share joyful experiences. The Oasis Center provides a way for women to connect with other women who understand, and to provide information and access to community resources.

There is no cost to participate in our Single Moms Support Group. On site babysitting is available for children 12 years and younger at no charge, and dinner is provided during meetings.

Oasis facilitates outreach to girls throughout the community using the Girls Circle curriculum model, a research-based, nationally utilized, structured support group for girls. The model integrates relational theory, resiliency practices, and skills training in a specific format designed to increase positive connection, personal and collective strengths, and competence in girls. Girls Circle aims to counteract social and interpersonal forces that impede girls’ growth and development by promoting an emotionally safe setting and structure within which girls can develop caring relationships and use authentic voices.

Girls Circle encourages girls to share experiences that are helpful to one another. To participate, girls must make a commitment to attend the meetings, and follow the circle guidelines to be respect, no belittling, interrupting, offer experiences, not advice, keep the focus on oneself, and keep what’s said in the group private. Girls are free to share during meetings at their own pace.

We are facilitating or have facilitated Girls Circles at Buck Lake Elementary , Boys & Girls Club of the Big Bend, Capital City Youth Services, Amos P. Godby High School, Ghazvini Learning Center, Life Skills, HOPE Community, James S. Rickards High School, Leon High School, Fairview Middle School, Griffin Middle School, Nims Middle School, Stars Middle School, Cornerstone Learning Community, Palmer Monroe Teen Center, and Girls Can Do Anything Summer Camps.

If you are interested in bringing a Girls Circle to a school or community group, please contact Liovani Nazario by email or call 850-222-2747.
